What type of diabetes is this and how serious is it?

My Girlfriend (who is 21) says she has was diagnosed with migraines as a child, but they went away for a long time.

Within the last year they have come back and within the past few months they have gotten more severe. She gets horrible migraines for a few hours after she eats and stomach pains sometimes as well.

She went to the doctor for an unrelated reason and they wanted to check her blood sugar and found it was 214, two weeks later she goes back and they check it again and its 70 then 30 minutes later they check it again and its 135. The doctor wanted to put her on Insulin to regulate her blood sugar, but my girlfriend refused. She says she has lived with it for a long time without it affecting her life other than the migraines which she says she can deal with.

She is not fat or overweight at all and she is also very physically active so I can
